The Washington State Supreme Court convened a Disability Justice Task Force to evaluate how court systems serve people with disabilities and to identify barriers to full participation.

KMG Consulting was retained to gather data, assess accessibility in facilities and digital platforms, and provide actionable recommendations for statewide improvement.

The team designed and administered surveys for court staff, administrators, and court users with disabilities; facilitated focus groups to capture qualitative insights; and conducted in-person and digital accessibility audits. KMG analyzed all findings and developed a comprehensive report with policy and infrastructure recommendations that were presented to the Washington State Supreme Court.

The study produced the state’s first data-driven assessment of court accessibility, directly informing policy updates and infrastructure improvements for Washington’s judicial system.

Moreover, the study is also the first of its kind in the United States.
